Inspect both properties
Walk from the nearest legal stopping place to the door and note steps, gates, lifts, communal corridors and tight stair turns. Send street and entrance photos if the van cannot stop directly outside.
On newer estates, check turning space, visitor parking, height barriers and any construction obstruction. For central Chippenham, look for bay restrictions and loading times before choosing the moving slot.
Make the long carry visible
A long path or distant parking space is repeated for every box and item. Move your own vehicles before arrival and ask neighbours about shared access. If a permit or suspension is required, follow the current Wiltshire Council process early.
Do not rely on cones or bins to reserve a public space. Where close parking is impossible, give the actual carry distance so it can be included in crew and time planning.
Plan large furniture before the day
Measure sofas, wardrobes, beds and large appliances against the narrowest doorway and stair turn. Send photos if an item needs dismantling. Bag and label all fixings so reassembly does not turn into a search through boxes.
One person may suit a small accessible move. Stairs, heavy appliances and bulky furniture often make two people safer and faster. Flag pianos, safes, stone and large glass in advance.
Send a complete inventory
List furniture, appliances and approximate boxes, including lofts, garages, sheds and storage units. Seal boxes so they stack and label each one by destination room.
Send both postcodes, floor levels, parking details and access photos for a realistic estimate. Call 01249 569 570 to discuss a Chippenham move.
