What a Chippenham garden clearance actually involves
Most jobs we get called to across Chippenham are one of a few things: a garden that's got away from you over a wet winter, a shed or greenhouse being emptied and taken down, decking or old fence panels coming out, or a rented property's garden being put back to a lettable state. We turn up with the Luton van, sack truck and straps, and shift green waste, prunings, bagged leaves, turf, brambles, rotten timber, tired garden furniture, broken trampolines and the general clutter that collects down the bottom of a plot. You point, we carry and load — including the heavy, awkward and half-buried bits. Everything is separated on the van where we can, so green waste can head off to be composted rather than going in as one mixed load.
Getting the waste out of Chippenham's long terraced gardens
The catch with garden clearance here is rarely the loading — it's the getting-out. The Victorian terraces around Lowden, Rowden Hill and the streets near the station have notably long back gardens, and plenty of them have no rear vehicle access at all. That means every barrow-load comes up the garden and through the house to the van on the street, so we bring boards and sheeting to protect your floors and hallway. The newer plots at Cepen Park North and South, Pewsham and Sheldon usually have a side gate we can wheel through, and the riverside homes near Monkton Park have their own access quirks. Tell us how we reach the garden when you book and we'll allow the right time and bring the right kit.
What we take from the garden — and the bits we can't
Green and garden waste of every kind, hedge cuttings and prunings, turf and topsoil, small amounts of hardcore and rubble, decking boards, fence panels and posts, sheds and greenhouses, garden furniture, planters, pots, old paddling pools and hot-tub surrounds, trampolines and general shed-and-garage overspill — from a single item to a fully cleared plot. The main things we can't take are paint tins, weedkillers, creosote and similar hazardous garden chemicals, which need specialist disposal. Loose asbestos garage roofing is another we can't touch. If you've got soil or rubble in real quantity, mention it up front — it's heavy, so it changes how we price and load. Unsure about something? Ring 07742 791139 and we'll tell you straight before you book.
Why volume pricing beats a skip for garden waste
Garden clearance is priced by volume — how much of the van it fills — like skip hire but with no VAT and all the loading done by us, from around £150. Single items start at £80. For garden jobs specifically, a skip has two hidden traps: soil, turf and rubble are heavy, so a builder's skip hits its weight limit long before it looks full, and if it sits on the road outside a Lowden terrace you'll need a Wiltshire Council permit as well. Our van has no weight-per-load surprise and no permit to arrange, and we take it away the same visit rather than leaving it on your drive for a week. We confirm the price on arrival, before a single barrow is loaded.
Sheds, decking, fencing and greenhouses taken down
A fair few Chippenham garden clearances start with something that needs dismantling first. We regularly break down and clear old timber sheds, rotten decking, tired fence runs and glass or polycarbonate greenhouses, then load the lot and take it away in one go. Glass greenhouses get handled carefully and swept up so you're not finding shards in the lawn next spring. For a felt-roofed shed, decking area or fence line, tell us the rough size and condition when you book — a six-by-four shed and a twenty-foot deck are very different jobs — and we'll give you an honest steer on what's involved and what it'll cost before we start.
Responsible disposal, composting and landlord paperwork
Everything we clear goes through licensed routes — green waste to composting wherever it can, timber and metal split out for recycling, and nothing ever fly-tipped in a field or a lane. It saves you the tip run too: the local household recycling centre limits what a car can bring and needs a booking or permit for van and trailer loads, and won't help with a shed's worth of timber and glass anyway. We're a registered upper-tier waste carrier (licence CBDU445737), fully insured and Checkatrade verified at 9.8 out of 10 from over 165 reviews, and we'll provide a waste transfer note for landlords, agents and executors clearing a garden for a changeover or sale.
