Why a van beats a skip on Calne's streets
Much of central Calne was built for the bacon trade, and it shows in the housing — narrow terraces and Georgian frontages packed tight around Church Street, Curzon Street and The Green, with the River Marden threading through the middle of it all. Dropping a skip on streets like these means a Wiltshire Council permit, a suspended-bay headache, and days of it sat outside blocking the road. We skip all of that: the van comes to your door, we load it by hand, and it's gone the same visit. No permit, no lifting, and nothing narrowing an already tight street while the neighbours grumble.
What we clear across Calne — and the one thing we can't
Sofas and suites, mattresses and bed frames, wardrobes and flat-pack, fridges, freezers and washing machines, garden and green waste, and the full contents of a cluttered garage or shed — a single item or a vanful, we take it. Loft and garage clear-outs on the Quemerford side of town and beyond are our bread and butter, as are one-off bulky pieces the council won't collect kerbside. The main thing we can't take is paint tins and similar hazardous waste — no solvents, gas bottles or asbestos. If you're unsure about a particular item, ring 07742 791139 before you book and we'll tell you straight.
How volume pricing works — and how it stacks up against skip hire
Clearance is priced by volume, the same principle as a skip: roughly how much of the van your waste fills. The difference is there's no VAT, and we do every bit of the loading. A part-load starts from around £150, with single bulky items charged individually — a single bed £80, an armchair £84, a sofa £95, a fridge, double bed or washing machine £120. Once you tot up a skip permit, the hire days and your own weekend spent filling it, a man-with-a-van usually lands comparable or cheaper. You get a firm price on arrival, before anything is lifted, and only once you're happy do we crack on.
Licensed disposal and your waste transfer note
Everything we take off you is disposed of properly. We run through licensed transfer stations and recycling routes and we re-use, donate or recycle whatever sensibly can be, rather than everything going to landfill. We hold an Environment Agency upper-tier waste carrier licence (CBDU445737) and never, ever fly-tip. If you're a landlord clearing between tenants, an executor handling an estate, or a business that needs it for your records, just ask and we'll provide a written waste transfer note so you've got proof your rubbish went where it should.
Derry Hill, Quemerford and the villages around Calne
We're not only clearing the SN11 town centre. Quemerford on the eastern side, the newer builds on the edge of town, and the villages ringing Calne — Derry Hill, Sandy Lane, Bremhill, Cherhill and the Bowood estate cottages — are all covered week in, week out. Some of these lanes are single-track with awkward passing places and low tree cover, so when you book it helps to mention whether the van can get right up to the property or whether we'll be carrying across a yard or down a track. The more we know up front, the smoother and quicker the collection goes.
How quickly we can get to you
For most Calne clearances we can be with you same-day or next-day, depending on how the week's booked. Calne sits just off the A4 east of Chippenham, and we run this corridor regularly alongside Melksham, Devizes and Corsham, so fitting in a collection is rarely a problem. Give us a ring on 07742 791139 (WhatsApp works too — a photo of the pile or the item saves a lot of describing) with a rough idea of what's involved, and we'll give you a realistic time and a ballpark price, then confirm the final figure when we arrive.
